I have always had a love of hunting and
admiration for wildlife. In 1969 the only training available in this field
was a home correspondence course. Along with this were a few library
books. I loved doing the work and God has blessed me with the ability.
I
quickly established a flourishing
business in Dubuque Iowa. As the trade magazines became available I used
each of them to increase knowledge and skill. State and other organizations
began forming bringing taxidermists together to share their skills. In
1984 the International Guild of Taxidermy was formed. I served on the Board of
Directors and later as Vice President. I am also an active member of the Indiana Taxidermy
Association. In 1983 I moved to my current
location. My shop is a full time shop and has a showroom so that my work may be
seen and evaluated by customers. I have also done work for schools and the
DNR.
In 2000, I had the privilege of being the sixth member to be certified a 'Grand
Master' by the International Guild of Taxidermy. I consider this my highest
honor in this field.
I have received over 100 other awards in competition at various state,
international and world shows. These include 1st places, best of categories, judges
choices, peoples choice, Lifetone Paints Award of Excellence, Van
Dyke Supply Company most original and creative award and their Hall of Fame
Award, Breakthrough Magazine's judges choice and best of show, and three other
Best of Show wins as well as First Place in world competition. I have also
judged for some state and the International shows.
